Music Composer

  • Remote

Join Zack D. Films as a freelance Music Composer and craft original tracks that bring our viral animated stories to life.

Job description

Zack D. Films is hiring a versatile and creative Music Composer to create original music tracks for our short-form animated videos. This role is key to expanding our owned content library and having more control over enhancing storytelling impact.

🎯 About the Role

As our composer, you'll work closely with our content team to craft original music across multiple moods and genres. These compositions will serve as background music for 30–90 second animated videos published across YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram, and other platforms. You’ll help shape the emotional tone of our videos while ensuring we retain full ownership and licensing rights to all music created.

🧠 What You’ll Do

  • Compose, produce, and deliver fully original tracks based on video briefs and reference examples.

  • Develop music for specific themes and moods, such as:

    • Serious/Suspenseful – tension, tragedy, horror (highest priority)

    • Mysterious/Spooky – unsettling, eerie, “ghost story” feel

    • Quirky/Silly/Medical – fun, weird, light-hearted tracks for odd or gross topics

    • Historical – “old-timey” feel using period-appropriate instrumentation

    • Feel Good/Hopeful – light, upbeat, emotionally warm scores

    • Fast-Paced Action – high-tempo, energetic tracks that keep viewers engaged

  • Adapt musical compositions to support story pacing and emotional arcs; in longer videos, this may include multiple complementary tracks.

  • Work with Zack D. Films’ operations team to ensure all deliverables meet format, licensing, and tagging needs for Content ID use.

  • Maintain organized delivery of final stems and mixes for future remixing or adjustment.

Job requirements

  • Proven experience composing original music across various moods and genres.

  • Proficiency with DAWs and virtual instruments.

  • Strong sense of narrative storytelling and how music supports emotional shifts.

  • Ability to work independently and deliver consistent quality within deadlines.

  • Willingness to transfer full licensing rights to Zack D. Films for commercial use and monetization.

💡 Bonus Skills

Experience composing for animation or short-form content.

Familiarity with YouTube’s Content ID system or royalty-free licensing.

Ability to create loops, stingers, or multiple versions of the same track for pacing flexibility.

📁 Deliverables

Full-length mastered .wav and .mp3 versions of each track.

Individual instrument stems.

Short loopable or alternate versions (15–30 sec) where relevant.

Metadata and cue sheets for rights management.

❌ What We Don’t Want

AI-generated music – we’re looking for human composers only.

Off-brand experimentation – follow the emotional tone and structure of our existing categories.

Foreground music – tracks should be supportive and background-oriented, not overpowering the voiceover or visuals.

📌 Compensation

Freelance, paid per track (rate negotiable based on experience and scope). Long-term collaboration opportunities for the right fit.
